-TALK THE TALK-

Monday, 16 February 2009

.+'FIRST GROUP'+.

I am a member of the first group but i was not able to hear the speeches due to my suspension. Our speakers were Ms. Patricia Mamangun, a broadcast journalist and Mr. Borj Meneses, a photographer. According to those who were present Ms. Mamangun talked about her journey and experiences as a reporter of CLTV 36. Mr. Borj Meneses on the other hand told his story as an acclaimed photographer who expresses his passion for art through his shots.

.+'SECOND GROUP'+.

Mr. Raphael Tuazon, A young man who is a street sweeper in Angeles City Hall. This man has a very complicated life due to his experiences. By age 18 he is already a family man. Unfortunately, it did not work out and he is now separated from his wife. His situation and life and the place where he works is kind of a cliche for me. The city hall should given this person an opportunity to continue his studies. They should include him in programs for him to finish his studies and reach his goals in life.

The second speaker is Ms. Vianca Catangcal, a dentist. She shared tips on oral hygiene. Her talk was very informative and educational.

.+'THIRD GROUP'+.

Ms. Remedios Angeles works in the university as a janitor. She has been working in AUF for 20 years. She is an undergraduate who advises us to listen to our parents always. She loves her family very much and she is very dedicated to her work. Everything she does is for her family.

Dj TYRA is a dj for RW fm. She knows her work well and she tells us to prepare if we want to be part of the media field. She is very happy with her work even though she is required to multitask due to the lack of staff at the station. She is also a very articulate speaker.

.+'FOURTH GROUP'+.

Fred Bauldin is a tourist here in the Philippines and family friend of fellow classmate Garrick Jordan. He works at a naval hospital in Guam. His work there is inclined with interviewing applicants for the hospital. He checks the applicants papers and other requirements. According to him, Filipinos are very hospitable and he has enjoyed working with them.

Arnel Berato, an AUF law student originally from Mindanao. He grew up in Mindanao but now he has his junk shop business here in Pampanga. He divides his time with his work, family and studies. He believes in setting parameters in life and making sure we reach the goals we have planned for ourselves. I noticed that he was a bit intimidated or rather a bit shy during his talk.

.+'FIFTH GROUP'+.

The fifth group presented three speakers due to a miscommunication in the group. First was Mr. Brian Osayan, a janitor at AUF. I know him because he usually helps us with concerns in the auditorium. He is very friendly and he isn't grumpy. You will always see a smile on his face even when he is just sweeping the floor. I never knew that Kuya Brian's life was like a telenovela. His father abandoned him at a very young age. He was left with his mother who later on married an American. His step father was a good provider but Kuya Brian started to be rebellious when he reached high school. His parents tried to help him but at that time he was out of control. He ended up working as a janitor for the school. He is happy with his life now, but he knows that he could have had a better life.

Mr. Paul Gilgen is a regular costumer at the Clarkton Hotel. He was brought to class by Ate Mj who knows Paul through work. He is a businessman who has achieved a lot in life. He is now working online. During his speech he gave us some quotations like aim high, stay humble, make everyday count, you attract more bees with honey, people are more cooperative with more of please and thank yous, build your interests and hobbies, always keep your sense of humour.

The last speaker is Ms. Charity Brenda Monette. By just looking at her you would notice that she has a very strong and intimidating personality. Ms. Monette is a TOS awardee and was also given the award of performing artist of the year. She is currently working as a teacher at the Shikayna Christian Academy. For her teachers deal with life, with students. She also has a theory about double-minded people. According to her only a very focused person is capable of being successful. Without focus or by being double-minded a person becomes unfocused and is then incapable of success.

.+"MEDIA EQUATION AND MEDIA ECOLOGY"+.

"MEDIA EQUATION"
Media = real life

Before I would always hear my dad shouting at the TV. There are times that he'd shout because of happiness and times when he'd get mad. This happens when he watches soccer games. He is so into the game that he feels like he is actually inside the stadium cheering or defending his favorite team. Just like real life! =]

"MEDIA ECOLOGY"

TETRAD. composed of 4 divisions.. .

1.Enhancement
2.Obsolescence
3.Retrieval
4.Reversal

The medium is radio.
The enhancement would be news and music. Through the radio news and music are amplified.
Obsolescence is print and visual. Radio reduces the importance of print and visual media keys.
Retrieval : Radio returns the spoken word to the forefront.
Reversal is the transition of acoustic radio into audio-visual TV.

As times progress so does media. We have improved in systems such as technology. This theory makes us realize that media has also been moving forward to fit our needs. We used to communicate through land line phones where in movement was limited because of the cord but now everyone has cellphones.

.+"MEN vs. WOMEN"+.

GENDERLECT PARADIGM

As they say men are from Mars women are from Venus. Even in simple situations men and women are very different. When in a private setting women are more comfortable with talking about experiences unlike men who love to talk a lot when in front of other people. They tend to protect their ego. Men would do anything just to get the respect of their friends. Its like a race for their status in a group. For instance, Zo likes Anj but Anj doesn't like him so he goes for Den to protect his ego. He has never had a girlfriend unlike his other friends who get a lot of girls so now he gets the confidence to prove his friends wrong. While Den doesn't really know the story behind zo's actions. She thinks that he likes her that's why he's in a relationship with her. Women don't care about their ego that's why most of the time women get heartbroken.

.+"DRAMARAMA"+.

Dramatism Theory

The elections are fast approaching and campaigns have yet to start. An example of dramatism is political speeches. A politician can speak about anything and everything but usually he talks about issues that the people would want to hear.He has to get the audience to see eye to eye with him before he'll ever be able to get his point across. He will surely talk about relieving the poor from their status in life, saving the Philippines from recession and all the other things that are good to hear.A politician, hopefully will believe in the things he is saying, but even if he isn't, he can make the audience love him by speaking about things that are important to them. This is actually the problem with Filipino politicians more talk less work. If only they could deliver on their promises and plans for the Filipino people then the Philippines could have a chance to get back on top and be freed from being identified as a third world country.Posted by samitoot at Friday, February 27, 2009 0 comments

.+"CULTIVATION THEORY"+.

CULTIVATION THEORY.

My niece Hans used to be very afraid of bats. It came to a point that he would cry. Bats don't even go near people. He calls the bats vampires. All of us in the house keep on wondering where he got that idea. His mom eventually found out that he was watching Tagalog horror movies and even the superhero batman made him fear bats. He would scream all the time, "Bampira, Bampira!!". It was annoying and at the same time we were really worried about his behavior. These vampire and bat shows that he watched was really the culprit because when his mom started to censor his TV watching his fear of bats got weaker and weaker until it vanished. He no longer screams when he sees bats and his fear just didn't exist anymore.Posted by samitoot at Friday, February 27, 2009 0 comments

.+"HUSH HUSH"+.

Spiral of Silence.

This is one thing my boyfriend and I always fight about. When I'm mad or when I'm not happy with something I'd rather not talk about the issue. Usually I'd just keep quiet because i want him to figure it out by himself but its just impossible. He can sense that something is wrong but he can never really find out exactly what it is. I have to accept that he's not Edward Cullen, the very handsome vampire who can read minds. . hahaha.

Last weekend he asked me to invite my friends to go out. I text messaged my friends and they agreed. Everything was set we were just waiting for his friends to arrive so we can leave. When his friends came they wanted to go some place else. He agreed without asking me and I got really mad. I didn't tell him though, when we reached the car he asked me what was wrong. I said, "Its nothing, it will pass don't worry" but of course he wanted me to blurt out whatever I was thinking. In the end, I didn't tell him. I kept quiet.

We talked about the issue just yesterday and I promised the next time I felt unhappy I would talk to him about it because that's just how relationships work. Communication is a very big factor especially because we are in a long distance relationship. Next time I will definitely voice out my feelings.Posted by samitoot at Friday, February 27, 2009 0 comments

.+"ADS and Cognitive Dissonance"+.

Advertisements and the cognitive dissonance theory.

Exposure to new information or opinions after the decision has been made may create new cognitions that are dissonant with existing beliefs. Like the Head ans shoulders commercial that asks which is the world num. one shampoo. Different people from all over the world are shown in the commercial and asked the same question, "What is the worlds number 2. anti dandruff shampoo?" everyone asked says they don't know. When Angel Locsin is asked, "What is the worlds number 1 anti-dandruff shampoo?" she answers, "head and shoulders." The tendency is that the viewers are persuaded to think that the best anti-dandruff shampoo is head and shoulders. Every time the person goes to the supermarket that is what the person looks for in the aisle of shampoos presented to him/her. The person could have believed that a different anti-dandruff shampoo is the best but the commercial changed the opinion of the viewer.Posted by samitoot at Friday, February 27, 2009 0 comments
